How can cutting edge research best serve the world responsibly?

Through our Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) training, we help researchers to think about their responsibility to the world, and to themselves.

What is RRI?

Responsible Research and Innovation refers to an approach to scientific and technological research which considers the impact of that research on the environment and society.

RRI is a key action of the European Commission’s 2020 Horizon programme. The aim of RRI is to empower researchers to consider the effects of their work on the world, to pursue a more sustainable and socially conscious research practice.

“Working with Kilter has been hugely influential on our team and how we support researchers and collaborate with artists to explore possible futures of research.”

– Ellie Cripps, Public Engagement Associate - University of Bristol

Kilter and RRI

Using our creative background and experience as conversation facilitators, we developed and delivered a series of creative workshops and events with researchers of all disciplines and career stages. The series provoked researchers to think about the effects of their work on the world, and about their responsibility to the environment, humanity, the future, and themselves.

The series was delivered collaboratively with the Public Engagement team at the University of Bristol, and the result was a collection of innovative and accessible exercises for researchers to adopt into their practices and to share with others: the RRI Toolkit.
