Made in Foxhill

A whole heap of imaginative undertakings in a little known corner of beautiful Bath.

Singing, dancing, stories, cake. It’s all going on up the hill. It’s all Made in Foxhill! If you live locally, or work locally, or just generally love Foxhill, come along to one, or all, of our events celebrating the heritage, creativity, landscape and people of the Foxhill community.

You can also follow Made in Foxhill on Twitter & Facebook.

Made in Foxhill was a co-production run in 2018, in partnership with Creativity Works and Bath Dance as a consortium commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

As part of Made in Foxhill, Kilter delivered a series of community events and workshops, as well as a Summer Youth Theatre School, for and with the residents of Foxhill.

“What makes Kilter stand out is that in every part of the creative process they model their values. Whenever they make a piece of theatre, or devise a community project, they challenge and question themselves about why the work needs to exist, how it is relevant and what it will achieve. That's the Kilter way - to bring people together to reflect upon and celebrate what makes them strong as individuals and unites them as a community. That's why their work is always perceptive, intelligent and engaging."

– Peter Salt, Arts Development Officer, Bath & North East Somerset Council

The Projects

The Chronicles of Foxhill

Kilter invited everyone who knows and loves the area to contribute ideas for a brand new Guided Tour of Foxhill, which premiered in the Bath Walking Festival in September 2018.  With a huge street-plan of the area and a timeline stretching back over 100 years, there were plenty of ways to stir up memories and put the Foxhill community firmly on the map.

Where would you take an alien if they landed in Foxhill?

What’s the best place to fall in love?

Where do you go if you want to bump into a friend?

Where have you laughed hardest?

These were the kind of questions Kilter asked to make a map of Foxhill’s most prized geographical features.

Walkie Talkies

Talking walks around Foxhill, taking in village pubs, ancient castles, new builds and 1950s social housing, inspired by the history of the area and the recollections of residents. We set off along the ancient Wansdyke, through woods & fields to Southstoke, then to a secret valley in Midford and the lost railway line, before a final climb to the brand new Mulberry Park.

Walk leaders gently facilitated conversation as we rambled. With our blood pumping & our minds stimulated, we’d find time to consider the housing crisis, the migrant crisis, the homelessness crisis, and the crisis of needing to repaint the guest bedroom!
