Futures

An arts-science collaboration exploring the worlds of quantum and virtual reality.

In collaboration with researchers from the University of Bristol, we are exploring the cutting-edge worlds of quantum and virtual reality.

We are learning how quantum science is moving from the theoretical to the real, and is set to change the world!  Working with the people at the forefront of this science, we are unlocking ethical conversations about the future of quantum, and finding new ways to communicate its importance to the world.

As immersive technologies like virtual reality look set to become part of our everyday existence, we are exploring the ethics and societal issues of this cutting-edge science. We are devising new ways of communicating developments in the technology, and of harnessing conversations around ethics, philosophy, and the human experience.

This project culminated in a series of workshops and micro-performances in summer 2019, designed to provoke an ethical conundrum for the future and share cutting-edge research with you, the public.

“Working with Kilter has been hugely influential on our team and how we support researchers and collaborate with artists to explore possible futures of research.  For the Futures Artist Residency, Kilter have been flexible and adaptable in engaging with a wide variety of audiences and two very different research fields. As a result, not only did audiences across Bristol engage with new technologies in an immersive and thought-provoking way but the project also impacted engineering research of the future, with researchers able to explore the societal applications of the technologies they are creating.”
