eVRafter

A 360 film, an online performance webinar & a fake website, all exploring the emerging post-life digital industry.

Everyone deserves to live happily eVRafter… right?

Have you ever imagined living forever? What about living forever, digitally? eVRafter can help. Say goodbye to grieving; hello immortality!

eVRafter is an elaborate design fiction company; part of the burgeoning post-life digital service industry. When you die, all the data gathered through your lifetime of interaction with technology can be forged to create your immortal digital counterparts. For eVRafter that means your body may be gone but your friends & relatives can still spend time with you… inside a headset.

A 3-part digital presentation, using deepfake photography & cardboard Virtual Reality headsets.

eVRafter was created by Kilter Theatre in collaboration with the University of Bristol, as part of our work in Responsible Research. It was presented in November 2022, culminating in a series of live, online broadcasts.

“Kilter have developed an approach to interrogating the social and ethical consequences of research and development which is extremely valuable and I can see it having useful applications in many fields. 'Just because you can doesn't mean you should '.”

Audience Reactions

“What a fascinating concept and just so beautifully executed.”

“The format was both original and effective. I have always steered clear of thinking about the implications of AI and virtual reality because it always seemed so dry and theoretical. This allowed me to approach it.”

“Brilliant! Such a clever way of exploring an idea - so subtle and surprising. Loved it.”

“Frighteningly plausible… such exciting work”

“Amazing, I absolutely loved it.”
