Wassail! at Kensington Meadows

A free seasonal celebration for residents of Snow Hill and their neighbours in the east of Bath.

Apple tree, apple tree,
Bear good fruit,
Or down with your top
And up with your root!

According to ancient custom, Wassailing fruit trees at this time of year is the only certain way to guarantee good crops in the Autumn. It's as old as the hills and as daft as a brush.

Wrap up warm, bring a pot and a wooden spoon, and join us as we take up the rituals of drumming, shouting and hurling slices of toast into the branches. You know it makes sense.

The Wassail will be hosted by January, standing astride the past and future with a snotty cold, a bicycle hooter and a ludicrous brummie accent.

Join us for:

Free hot chocolate (while stocks last)

Making as much noise as we can!

A traditional apple wassail

Actors with silly hats and ridiculous accents!

Family friendly fun and games

Toast!

Nonsense seasonal poetry from St Andrews Yr 4

This is a special one-off event for residents of Snow Hill & their neighbours in the east of Bath. It would normally cost £10 to attend but thanks to players of the National Lottery we are able to offer it for free (including free hot chocolate & prizes!).

This event is part of Kilter's 5-year Bathscape commission to help local people creatively connect with their beautiful world-heritage landscape throughout the year.

This event has now ended. Find out more about our Seasonal Celebrations here, or peruse our current events here.

FAQs

  • This event is taking place outdoors so please wear sensible shoes, and be prepared for the unpredictability of Great British weather! There will be refreshments available, but supplies are limited so we recommend arriving early - please bring your own reusable cup if you would like a hot chocolate.

  • There is step-free access to the main meadow, toilets and cafe (in Morrisons). Disabled parking spaces are available to Blue Badge holders. We regret that not all parts of the site are wheelchair accessible.

  • Meet on Kensington Meadows at 3pm.
